No matter how many precautions you take, dental accidents can happen and frequently do. Whether you’ve sustained a sporting injury or broken a decayed tooth, the team at London Bridge Dental Practice can provide emergency care to alleviate discomfort.

What is a Dental Emergency?
Dental emergencies are serious oral health issues that require immediate treatment outside of regular office hours to eliminate severe discomfort, prevent infection, or reduce oral deterioration. Some conditions considered dental emergencies include:

  • Fractured, chipped, or broken teeth
  • Teeth knocked out due to trauma
  • An abscessed tooth
  • Severe oral sensitivity
  • Loose or missing fillings or dental restorations
  • Severe toothache accompanied by pressure and fever

What Emergency Treatments Do We Offer?
At London Bridge Dental Practice, we provide gentle, compassionate care for dental emergencies and offer a wide range of treatments to alleviate oral discomfort, such as:

  • Tooth extraction
  • White amalgam-free fillings
  • Temporary crowns
  • Replacing lost teeth
  • Prescribing antibiotics
  • Managing excessive bleeding

Our emergency treatments can provide permanent or temporary relief from painful oral health problems until you can schedule a follow-up appointment for a more thorough examination and treatment.

What to do in Case of an Emergency?
If you lose a tooth, pick it up by the crown, not the root, and rinse it gently under clean water to remove debris. Place the tooth back in the socket and clamp your mouth closed to keep it in place. If you cannot place your tooth in your mouth, you can also store it in a clean container of milk.

For severe discomfort, take over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication and apply a cold compress to the side of your face intermittently for five minutes at a time. This can numb the area until you can reach our dental practice.

If you have lost or broken a tooth, and are experiencing persistent bleeding, staunch the socket with a piece of gauze clamped between your teeth, and call our practice immediately.

If you are experiencing a dental emergency, call our practice on 0207 407 1920. Dr Michael Akere and Dr Ebuni Ilombu and their skilled team can alleviate your discomfort and restore your oral health.
