Sadly, dental disasters can happen from time to time, but with us, you don’t need to panic; we offer emergency dental care and will endeavour to ease your troubles and relieve you from pain as quickly as we can.
Dental injuries
Accidents, falls and sports injuries can all take their toll on the teeth, not to mention the sudden onset of dental pain. If you need urgent assistance following an injury or you have sudden pain, call us and we will arrange an appointment as quickly as we can.
Examples of dental emergencies include fractures and broken teeth, dental abscesses, jaw injuries and dislodged teeth. In the case of chips, it’s a good idea to see a dentist to get the tooth checked out but you probably won’t need an urgent appointment.
Dental abscesses require urgent treatment by dentists, rather than doctors because they are treated differently to other types of abscess and they require draining. Abscesses are collections of pus, which are often very sore and painful. If you have severe toothache and you don’t have an abscess, we can also provide immediate relief and examine your mouth to find the cause of the discomfort. Sometimes, pain is caused by fractures and we will X-ray the tooth to make a diagnosis and determine the extent of the damage.
If you lose a tooth and it comes clean out, it may be possible to save the tooth if you are able to get to us quickly enough. If you can find the tooth, wipe it very gently, holding the crown of the tooth at all times and then pop it in a glass of milk or hold it in your mouth between the inside of your cheek and your gum. This advice is not applicable to children, as there is a risk of choking. When you get to the clinic, our dental team will do their best to re-implant the tooth into its socket.
