The Benefits of Mini-Implants in London’s SE1

March 7th, 2011 by admin

Anyone that wears dentures in London’s SE1 will tell you that one of the biggest problems with them is keeping them in the mouth. Sure, dentures have come an awful long way- the materials from which they are made, the fixatives that are used, all have radically improved, yet, the wearer is still left with that nagging doubt that they may still fall out when eating or talking. But now thanks to the introduction of mini-implants, that embarrassment has all but disappeared. Thanks to micro surgery that leaves very little damage to the gums, these tiny, little bits of titanium can be fitted into the jaw bone in 2 hours. The dentures will be modified and then they simply click onto the implants; combined with a fixative, those dentures are going nowhere. Imagine the benefits when ordering certain types of food at a restaurant. But mini-implants are also favoured a lot more for the fitting of bridges and crowns, for the same reasons as have already mentioned, they offer great back-up support to normal fixing procedures, lengthening the shelf life of the fitting overall. Because implant technology and healing methods have improved dramatically over recent years, they are easier to fit and with that, competitively, the price of having a mini-implants fitted have dropped substantially of late. But then cost should never factor in the improvement of lifestyle that a mini-implant can bring.

London SE1 dentist removes anxiety of loose dentures with mini-implants

Everyone has probably known someone with dentures in their life and is aware of the problems associated with them. We have all also seen the adverts on TV for denture adhesive used to keep the dentures in place. Loose fitting dentures are potentially very embarrassing and can be the source of great anxiety for those that have to wear them. As if losing your teeth wasn’t enough pain and embarrassment, having to worry that your dentures might fall out at an important moment can be very stressful.

Denture adhesives do work but they are also very messy and can prevent the patient from eating many types of food. Luckily, there is now a more permanent solution that doesn’t involve the daily application of a sticky gel. Mini-implants work by fixing small screws directly into the jawbone. These are solid and act as a rigid base for the dentures which can be clipped on and off. The mini-implants are small-scale versions of the implants used commonly to replace missing teeth and have a proven track record. They are fitted directly into the jaw and fuse with the bone and tissue to become almost like part of the jaw. Once firm, your dentures can be adjusted to fit the mini-implants and you will be free to enjoy an anxiety free life safe in the knowledge that your dentures will never fall out and that you can eat any food you want.

Mini-implants are available from London SE1 dentists and are the perfect solution to all your loose denture needs. Make an appointment today to find out more about them.

Mini Implants explained by a London dentist in SE1

April 13th, 2010 by admin

A Mini Implant is just what it says on the tin confirms a dentist from SE1 in London. Implants in general help to keep the height of the jaw line, as when a tooth is removed the jaw line can and often starts to weaken and wear away. Unlike a general implant a Mini Implant is a lot less complicated to do, there is often no need to cut the gum and therefore stitches are not needed in most cases. The tooth can literally be screwed straight into the jaw bone, and incredibly it can be used with full effect almost straight away. The implants come in varying diameters and lengths from 1.8 to 2.9 mm, and in length from 10 to 18 mm. The length of the implant is generally determined by the softness or density of the bone that will hold it, the softer the bone the longer the implant needs to be. The main purpose of the Mini Implant is to preserve the density and height of the jaw line to make it easier to fit a full implant at a later stage. It is also used to help patients retain height and evenness of the jaw line for the wearing of false plate teeth, which in some cases makes them gag when first fitted. A general implant needs a period of about 3-6 months to adjust to the bone and become infused enough to be used with impunity, the Mini Implant is a whole different ball game in that because there is often no cutting, drilling or stitching the patient only generally need a small anaesthetic before the quick procedure. Once the numbness wears off the depth of the Mini Implant allows the implant or implants to be used straight away.
