Wipe Away Those Tears. Get South West London Veneers

2977218_blogDo you dread meeting new people or shy away behind others when a friend gets their camera out and starts snapping? Do you hold back in social situations because you’re conscious of the way your teeth look? If so, why not treat yourself to some veneers? Veneers are a very effective cosmetic dental treatment, which transform the teeth into a radiant smile.

All about veneers

Veneers are one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments and they hit the big time thanks to celebrity endorsements and appearances on well-known television makeover shows. Veneers are very thin sheets of ceramic, usually porcelain, which are placed over the top of the natural teeth in order to create a beautiful aesthetic. They are commonly used to treat problems such as worn edges and surfaces, chipped teeth and discolouration, but many people choose to have them to give them a flawless and brighter, whiter smile.

Veneer treatment

There are various different systems available and they all have their pros and cons. Essentially, the end result is the same, as veneers produce stunning smiles, but there are minor differences, which may make some treatments more appealing than others; this may related to the treatment process, the thickness of the veneers and the shade and sheen.

We are proud to offer Lumineers by Cerinate, which are made from patented ceramic. These veneers are ultra-fin and light, but incredibly hard-wearing and they come in beautiful natural shades with a glossy finish. As Lumineers are so thin, minimal preparation is required before the veneers are placed and this helps to preserve the tooth structure.

We also offer the famous Da Vinci system, which has featured heavily in the media. These veneers are synonymous with the Hollywood smile and guarantee an amazing new smile.

Whether you hate your chipped teeth or you are fed up of worrying about what others will think of your smile, veneers could help to transform your look and boost your confidence.

Drop Those Dingy Dentures For Those Of A South London Dentist

2797271_blogIf you still envisage dodgy-looking bulky dentures sat in a glass by the bed, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to hear that we offer amazing modern dentures, which not only look like healthy natural teeth, but also function in the same way. With our dentures, you can smile, laugh and eat without a care in the world and nobody will know that you have false teeth.

What are dentures?

Dentures are sets of prosthetic teeth, which are commonly associated with older people. However, the reality is that dentures are an effective solution for people of all ages and modern dentures are so natural-looking and believable that nobody will be able to tell that you’ve lost your natural teeth.

Dentures are usually held in place by the gums, as they possess natural suction power; however, some people prefer to use adhesive.

With dentures, you can carry out a host of functions that you may have lost after losing a number of teeth. You can eat and enjoy a wide range of foods, you can smile with confidence, you can speak clearly and you can enjoy enhanced facial aesthetics, due to the fact that your denture will give support to your cheeks and lips.

What happens when you have dentures fitted?

Dentures are bespoke, which means that they are designed for the individual patient. They are created using impressions of the patients mouth to ensure that they fit the contours of the mouth and to prevent sore spots and irritation.

Once you start wearing your dentures, we will arrange regular checks, so that we can keep an eye on the fit of your denture. Your mouth changes shape constantly, so dentures have to be replaced from time to time. If the denture becomes loose, this can contribute to sores developing and irritation of your gums.

Banish Those Bad Breath Baddies At The Bridge

If you have bad breath, you probably feel self-conscious, especially after eating or when you’re in a crowd of people or a more intimate gathering. The reality is that bad breath affects most people to a degree at some point in their life, but if it’s a persistent problem, it’s likely that there will be an underlying cause and identifying and treating this can make a massive difference to your oral health, as well as your social life and general wellbeing.

What causes bad breath?

There are many factors, which may cause bad breath. The most common cause is poor oral hygiene, but bad breath can also result from smoking, taking certain medicines and eating strongly flavoured foods. If you only have bad breath after eating or in the mornings when you wake up, it is likely that there is nothing to worry about; however, if you find that you have bad breath on a regular basis, there may be an underlying issue.

In most cases, bacteria in the mouth are to blame for bad breath; this is because when you eat, the bacteria feed and this causes them to give off gases, which have an unpleasant odour. Usually, bacteria gather at the back of the tongue and in the areas that are missed when you brush, such as the cracks between the teeth.

How can we help?

Good oral hygiene is the best weapon against bad breath and we advise all our patients to stick to a good daily oral hygiene routine, which includes brushing twice a day and flossing. Many patients who are prone to bad breath also find rinsing with mouthwash after eating very effective.

We also recommend hygiene treatments with our incredible dental hygienists. Hygienists use advanced techniques and specially designed instruments to achieve a deep clean, which will remove bacteria and stubborn plaque and tartar and leave your mouth feeling lovely and fresh. Your hygienist will also give your teeth a good polish, so that they look shiny and healthy.

A Simple Screening Could Save Your London Life

18625029It sounds rather dramatic to say that a trip to the dentist could save your life, but the reality is that this could be true. With oral cancer screening, we are able to spot the very early warning signs of mouth cancer and this means that the disease can be treated at the best possible time, when the chances of survival are high. We look out for any potential signs of danger during a routine check-up and we also offer screening services. We strongly advise all our patients to keep up to date with their check-ups, as they really can make a difference to your health.

About oral cancer

Oral cancer is a form of cancer, which has become more common in the UK; over the last ten years, the number of people affected by this disease has nearly doubled. One of the main problems with oral cancer is that most cases are currently diagnosed at an advanced stage when treatment is less likely to be successful because there is a risk that cancer has already spread. The concern is that many people are still unaware of the symptoms of mouth cancer because it does not have the same media profile as other types of cancer, such as prostate and breast cancer.

The symptoms of mouth cancer include a persistent cough, ulcers that take a long time to heal (more than 2 weeks), the appearance of red or white patches and any abnormal lumps or areas of swollen tissue in the mouth or throat. Some of these symptoms are very general and it’s very likely that there will be nothing to worry about, but getting checked out is always a good idea. Early diagnosis and treatment can increase the chances of survival by 90 per cent, so a screening session or a routine check really could mean the difference between life and death.

What causes mouth cancer?

The main risk factors for mouth cancer include smoking, drinking alcohol on a regular basis and exposure to the human papilloma virus (HPV). If you smoke and drink, you are up to 30 times more likely to suffer from mouth cancer than a person who does not smoke or drink alcohol frequently.

You Could Have A Straight London Smile In Just Six Months!

1567900_blogThere once was a time when orthodontic treatment took at least a year, but now, thanks to amazing advances in technology, we can offer you a brand new, straight smile in just six months! Whether you’re preparing for a special event or you just can’t wait to show off the results of treatment, Six Month Smiles could be the ideal solution for you.

Everything you need to know about 6 Month Smiles

6 Month Smiles is a fixed brace system, but it has major differences to traditional fixed orthodontics. These braces use state of the art self-ligating technology to speed up tooth movement and reduce pain and they also concentrate on the social 6, rather than the full arch, which also cuts treatment time. The social 6 is the term used to describe the front six teeth on the top and bottom arches, which can be clearly seen when you smile.

As these braces focus on the front teeth, they are not suitable for everyone; however, they are a great choice for patients who have issues, such as mild crowding of the front teeth, crooked front teeth or small gaps between the teeth at the front of the mouth.

What are the advantages of 6 Month Smiles?

The most obvious advantage of this treatment is the speed; normally, treatment with fixed braces takes at least 12 months, but this system produces results in half the time. The braces are also designed with discretion in mind, as they contain clear brackets and tooth-coloured wires, so they are much less noticeable than normal train-track braces.

The technology used in this system is not just responsible for reduced treatment time, it also makes treatment more comfortable.

As patients can enjoy results so rapidly, this is a very popular choice for people who have a special occasion, such as a wedding, in mind.
